Hello! I'm Abby
I'm an undergraduate researcher at the University of Florida currently working on 2D Anisotropic Grain Growth Modelling using a machine learning model called APRIMME. I work with a postdoctoral mentor in the Tonks Research Group, and I am excited and honored to be a part of USP!

RESEARCH
Microstructure evolves in materials in harsh environments, changing the properties and degrading performance. The Tonks Research Group investigates the fundamental material behaviors governing this evolution and the corresponding changes in performance using mesoscale modeling and simulation. TRG employs the Multiphysics Object Oriented Simulation Environment, (MOOSE) an open source finite element framework, to simulate the material behavior. As an undergraduate researcher, I work with a postdoctoral scholar on multiple projects aimed at improving accuracy and efficiency of APRIMME. My primary role involves the generation and employment of datasets that are essential for validating the APRIMME model. My work requires a deep understanding of both machine learning principles and the specific physical concepts underlying microstructure evolution. The challenge of working with complex, physics-based data has deepened my appreciation for the nuances of model training and the importance of interpretability in machine learning models. This experience has not only enhanced my technical abilities but also inspired a passion for exploring innovative approaches to data generation and model development. As I continue in this role, I am excited to contribute to the advancement of APRIMME and to the broader field of materials science and engineering.
